RSS uses multiple spaceborne remote sensing technologies. Below is a basic description of a few of the technologies available to us. This is not to be considered an exhaustive list.

Advanced Land Imager (ALI)
ALI is one of three remote sensory devices on board the EO-1 satellite launched into Earth orbit by NASA in 2000. ALI provides panchromatic and multispectral bands.

Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER)
ASTER is one of five remote sensory devices on board the Terra satellite launched into Earth orbit by NASA in 1999. ASTER provides high-resolution images of the Earth in 14 different bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from visible to thermal infrared light.
